Service accounts are still supported for use with the Export API. Without more information about the error, it's hard to say what specifically is wrong, but I'd recommend checking the following:
• Check that the service account username and secret are correct
• Confirm that the service account credentials haven't expired (can be seen on the 'Service Account' page of the organization settings)
• Confirm that the service account has access to the project you're exporting data from
If none of those are the issue, can you share what error you're seeing from the Export API when the request fails?
