I have 2 events that are tracking the same action but got separated when a code change was made, how do I combine those 2 events at the base level without using a custom event.
You can merge the two events directly in Lexicon. This combines them at the logical level without modifying raw data, and without needing a custom event. Steps to merge events in Lexicon:
Navigate to Lexicon in your Mixpanel project.
Select both events you want to combine.
Click the Merge icon that appears.
In the "MERGE SELECTED EVENTS INTO…" section, choose which event name should be the canonical (primary) one going forward.
Click Merge. The merged event will appear with a "Merged" status.
After merging, Mixpanel will recognize both event names as a single event in all reports — no need to select them individually. [Lexicon Merging Data] A few important notes:
Only project owners can merge events in Lexicon. [Lexicon Merging Data]
Merging does not alter raw data — it creates a logical alias. [Lexicon Merging Data]
After merging, update all future tracking to use the canonical event name going forward. [Govern Data]
Any reports that previously referenced either event should be updated to reference the new merged event to maintain accuracy. [Lexicon Merging Data]
Note that Autocapture events (e.g., [Auto] Page View) cannot be merged. [Lexicon Merging Data]
