Teams vs. Project Invitations in Mixpanel
In Mixpanel, there are two main ways to manage user access: through Teams and through direct Project invitations. Here's how they differ:
Teams in Mixpanel
Teams are groups of users who share the same permissions across projects. This makes it easier to manage access for multiple users at once. When you invite users to a Team: - All team members receive identical roles and permissions - Teams are created at the organization level - Any changes to team permissions affect all members simultaneouslyTo create and manage teams: 1. Go to "Organization Settings" → "Users & Teams" → "Teams" tab 2. Click "Create Team" and provide a team name 3. Add users to the team by clicking "Add Users" 4. Grant project access to the team by clicking "Add Projects"Roles & Permissions: Teams provides detailed instructions on team management.
Project Invitations
Project invitations grant access to specific projects on an individual basis: - Users can have different roles across different projects - Permissions are managed at the project level - Changes to permissions only affect individual usersTo invite users directly to a project: 1. Go to "Project Settings" → "Project Users" 2. Click "Invite Users" 3. Select existing organization users or enter new email addresses 4. Assign specific project roles to each userYou can also set a default role for "All Users in the Organization" to give everyone baseline access to a project.Roles & Permissions: Invite Users to a Project provides more details on this process.
Key Difference
The main difference is in management efficiency: - Teams provide centralized permission management for groups of users - Project invitations offer more granular control on a per-user basisNote that users must first be part of your Mixpanel Organization (either through self-joining or invitation) before they can be added to teams or projects.
