When you use a proxy to route Mixpanel events through your own domain, it significantly reduces the likelihood that ad blockers will block those events. Ad blockers typically target known analytics endpoints (like Mixpanel’s default domains), so by sending events through a custom proxy on your own domain, you make it much harder for ad blockers to identify and block the traffic. This is why Mixpanel recommends using a proxy for client-side tracking if you want to minimize data loss due to ad blockers. However, it is still technically possible for a user to configure an ad blocker to block your specific proxy domain, but this is much less common and requires manual intervention by the user. For most users, routing through a proxy will bypass standard ad blocker rules and improve data collection reliability Tracking via Proxy (JavaScript) Mixpanel Troubleshooting FAQ.In summary: - Ad blockers can easily block events sent directly to Mixpanel’s endpoints. - Using a proxy makes it much less likely for events to be blocked, unless a user specifically blocks your proxy domain. - This approach is highly recommended for improving data accuracy in client-side tracking.
