Is using the website with one test account okay to get enough data to validate that the heatmap functionality is working
Hi event, Please stand by as I search the Mixpanel knowledge base for an AI-powered answer. I normally take about 15 seconds or so. Based on the knowledge sources, using just one test account is not sufficient to validate that heatmap functionality is working properly.According to the Heatmaps documentation, heatmaps are designed to show aggregated user behavior patterns. The blog post on heatmaps specifically states that "Heatmaps are an aggregation of the behavior and inputs from thousands of different users."Additionally, the documentation warns that "Heatmaps only capture data during sessions with recorded replays. If a page has limited replay coverage, the Heatmap may not offer meaningful insights." (Heatmaps Overview)For proper validation, you should: 1. Use a separate development project for testing, as recommended in the QA and debugging best practices2. Enable Session Replay with an appropriate sampling rate. The documentation shows examples using record_sessions_percent: 1 (1% of sessions), but for testing purposes you might want a higher percentage3. Generate multiple sessions to create enough data for the heatmap to display meaningful patternsWhile one test account can help you verify that the technical implementation is working (clicks are being captured), it won't give you a realistic view of how heatmaps will function with actual user data showing engagement patterns and hotspots.
