Enhancing Mixpanel: Forecasting Key Metrics for Growth Teams
Hey 👋 I wanted to share a product idea that could really expand Mixpanel’s value for growth and marketing teams. Idea: Enable forecasting of key metrics (e.g., Active Users, Activation Rate, Retention) based on event trend data already tracked in Mixpanel. In other words, allow users to project where growth is heading one month ahead or by end of year, based on observed user behaviors and event trajectories. Why it matters: Currently, Mixpanel is incredibly powerful at describing what happened and diagnosing the cause. But it’s less equipped for predicting what’s likely to happen next. Growth teams often export Mixpanel data into spreadsheets or BI tools to model future performance manually. If Mixpanel could do that natively — using trendlines, seasonality, and retention decay models — it would close the loop between analysis and planning. Potential features:
Forecast view on any chart (e.g. “Show next 3 months based on historical trend”)
Confidence intervals based on variance in event volume
Scenario planning (“If weekly activation improves by +10%, what does EoY MAU look like?”)
Alerts when actual data deviates significantly from forecast
