How to create a read-only copy of my mixpanel dashboards
Hi Elise S., Please stand by as I search the Mixpanel knowledge base for an AI-powered answer. I normally take about 15 seconds or so. You can’t turn a single dashboard into a special “read‑only version,” but there are two main ways to effectively get a read‑only copy, depending on who you’re sharing with.
-------------------------
1. Read‑only copy inside your Mixpanel project
Permissions are set at the board (dashboard) level, and all reports on that board inherit those permissions. You can make yourself (or a small group) editors and everyone else viewers:
Open the board.
Click Share (top right).
In the sharing modal:
Add specific teammates as Editors if they should be able to change it.
Set everyone else (e.g. “Project” audience) as Viewers so they can’t save edits. [Sharing boards]
Viewers can interact (change filters, date ranges) but their changes are not saved, so the board effectively behaves as read‑only for them. [Sharing boards]
If you want a separate copy that you can edit without affecting the original pinned/shared version, you can duplicate the board and work on your private copy. [Navigating project]
-------------------------
2. Read‑only copy for people without Mixpanel access
If you want a read‑only view for stakeholders who don’t log into Mixpanel:
Have a Project Owner enable Public Boards in Project Settings → Public Boards. [Public boards]
Open the board and click Share → Make Public to generate a public link. [Public boards]
People with the public link can only view the board; they cannot edit it or access the rest of your project, so this functions as a read‑only copy. [Create boards]
-------------------------
If you clarify whether you need read‑only for internal teammates or external stakeholders, I can narrow down the exact steps.

To give external stakeholders a read‑only copy of your dashboards, use Public Boards:
Have a Project Owner enable Public Boards
Go to Project Settings → Public Boards.
Click Enable for Project. [Public boards]
Make your dashboard public
Open the board (dashboard).
Click Share (top right).
In the Share modal, create a Public Link / toggle Make Public on.
Copy the public URL and share it with stakeholders. [Public boards]
Anyone with this link can view the board but cannot edit it or access the rest of your Mixpanel project, so it acts as a read‑only copy. [Public boards]
(Optional) Add password protection
In the same Share modal, under Public Board Details, check Require Passcode and set a password.
Share the URL and passcode with stakeholders, or use the Embed Link if you’re embedding in an iframe (e.g., Notion, Confluence). [Password protection; Embedding boards]
