How can I recover a board that was created/owned by a user that is not in active anymore?
Hi Isabella L., Please stand by as I search the Mixpanel knowledge base for an AI-powered answer. I normally take about 15 seconds or so. You can’t “recover” a deleted board per se in the docs provided, but there are a few documented ways to access or reuse a board that belongs to someone who’s no longer active: 1. Use project-level access (most common case) Boards are project assets. As long as the project still exists and you have access to it, you can open any non‐private board via its URL or by browsing boards, regardless of who created it. Sharing and permission is at the board level, not tied to the user’s continued activity.[Sharing & permission]2. Check board permissions / sharing If you can see the board but not edit it, ask a Project Owner/Admin (or someone with Editor access) to: - Add you as an Editor on that board, or - Adjust the board’s sharing so relevant teammates have access.[Sharing & permission]3. If you need a copy in another project Once you or an admin can access the board, you can use Move to duplicate it into another project, assuming Move is allowed for that project.[Move boards]4. If the board’s project / org was deleted - Deleted or reset projects are soft-deleted and only retained in backup per Mixpanel’s data retention policy; they are no longer accessible in the UI.[Managing projects] - Organizations scheduled for deletion remain accessible for 90 days, after which projects (and therefore boards) are permanently deleted.[Organizations] The documentation does not describe any special “take over all boards from a removed user” feature, or a way to restore a board that was deleted. If the board itself was deleted, or the project/org is past its deletion window, the knowledge sources don’t show a supported recovery path.

The board was not deleted but the user doesn't have access because the email used is no longer active kapa.ai
Let me check the knowledge base for you again. One moment! 📚
If the board itself still exists and was not set to be private, ownership of the creator’s email account does not block access for other project members: - Access depends on project + board permissions, not on the creator’s active email. Anyone in the project with Viewer/Editor access to that board can still open and use it, because sharing and permissions are set at the board level and apply to all reports on that board.[Sharing & permission]- What you can do now: 1. Have a Project Owner or Admin open the project, find that board, and: - Add you (or a team/“All Users in the Organization”) as Editor/Viewer on the board, or - Adjust sharing so it’s accessible to the right people.[[Project roles]](https://docs.mixpanel.com/docs/orgs-and-projects/roles-and-permissions#project-roles; [Sharing & permission] 2. If you want to “take over” the board, you can duplicate it to your own board once you have access.- If you truly cannot see the board at all: The docs do not describe a special recovery or reassignment flow just because the original owner’s email is inactive; recovery would rely on someone with sufficient project access still being able to see and reshare that board.[Sharing & permission] If none of the current Project Owners/Admins can find the board even though you’re sure the project still exists, the knowledge sources do not provide a documented way to recover it; you’d need to contact Mixpanel Support in that case.
