Understanding Checkout Page View Conversion Criteria in Funnels

·
·

I'm creating the funnel to measure conversion from checkout page view as a first step to subscription as a second step. Why does the number of checkout page views entering the funnel as a first step depend on the conversion criteria?

The number of checkout page views entering your funnel as a first step depends on the conversion criteria because different criteria affect how Mixpanel counts and processes funnel entries. Let me explain the key factors:

    Counting Method

Your counting method significantly impacts how many users or events are counted in the first step: - Uniques: Counts each user only once at their first entry into the funnel during your date range, even if they complete the funnel multiple times - Totals: Counts multiple entries per user, allowing users to re-enter the funnel after completing or dropping off - Sessions: Only counts steps that occur within the same session Funnels: Measure conversions through a series of events

    Conversion Window

The conversion window determines how much time users have to complete the funnel after entering it. By default, this is 30 days, but you can adjust it. A shorter window might exclude some checkout page views if the corresponding subscriptions didn't happen within that timeframe. Funnels: Measure conversions through a series of events

    Filters and Property Constants

If you've applied filters or are holding properties constant, this can affect which checkout page views qualify for the first step: - Global filters are applied post-query and can exclude entire funnel entries - Per-step filters are applied pre-query and can restrict which checkout page views qualify to enter the funnel - Hold property constant requires users to maintain the same property value throughout the funnel steps Funnels: Measure conversions through a series of events

    Exclusion Steps

If you've configured exclusion steps, these can affect which users progress through the funnel, potentially changing the number of checkout page views that are counted as successful entries. Funnels: Measure conversions through a series of events

    Ordering

The ordering setting (specific order vs. any order) can also impact how events are counted in your funnel, especially if users might view the checkout page multiple times. Funnels: Measure conversions through a series of eventsUnderstanding these conversion criteria is crucial for correctly interpreting your funnel results and making informed decisions about your checkout-to-subscription conversion process.
