An anonymous ID in Mixpanel is a unique identifier used to track users before they log in or identify themselves. Its main purpose is to connect all the actions a user takes while they are anonymous (not logged in) so you can later link this activity to their real user profile once they sign up or log in. This helps you see the full journey of a user, from their first anonymous visit to when they become an identified user, without needing to know any personal information about them. Typically, this ID is a randomly generated string (like a UUID) stored in a cookie or local storage on the user's device Docs: Protecting User Data Docs: Identifying Users (Simplified).
