How can i filter report by cohort: filter only those who are not in cohort?
Hi Yanisa S., Please stand by as I search the Mixpanel knowledge base for an AI-powered answer. I normally take about 15 seconds or so. You can do this using a Filter on the report: 1. In your report (Insights, Funnels, Flows, or Retention), click Filter. [Filters] 2. In the properties menu, switch the type to Cohorts so you see your saved cohorts. [Properties menu] 3. Select the cohort you care about (it will appear as “In Cohort: {Cohort Name}”). 4. In the filter condition, change the operator from “is” / “in cohort” to the negative condition (e.g. “is not” / “not in cohort”), so the filter keeps only users not in that cohort. [Using cohorts in analysis]This will restrict the report to users who are not members of that cohort.

The docs confirm you can filter by cohorts, but they don’t explicitly show a “not in cohort” toggle or operator in the UI, so I can’t be fully certain how it appears in your project. [Filters; Using cohorts]Here are two reliable options based on what is documented:
1. Use cohort as a filter (if your UI shows a negation option)
1. Click Filter in your report. [Filters]
2. In the properties menu, switch to Cohorts and pick your cohort (it appears as In Cohort: {name}). [Properties menu]
3. If your UI offers an operator (like “is / is not”), choose the negative one (e.g. “is not in cohort”).
The docs don’t show this control, so if you truly don’t see any operator, use option 2 below.
2. Build a “not in cohort” cohort and filter by that
Since cohorts can be combined with AND/OR/“did not do”, you can define a new cohort that represents “users not in X” and then filter by that cohort. [Cohorts FAQ]High‑level steps: 1. Go to Users → Cohorts and open the Cohort Builder. [Cohorts] 2. Recreate the logic of your original cohort, but invert it (e.g. switch “did” to “did not do”, or use AND/OR to express the negation, as shown in the FAQ examples). [Cohorts FAQ] 3. Save this as “Not {Original Cohort}”. 4. In your report, click Filter, choose Cohorts, and select this new “Not …” cohort. [Using cohorts]If you tell me how your original cohort is defined, I can suggest an exact “not in” cohort definition using the documented cohort builder options.
