Is it possible to divide by the total in a breakdown? I.e. A/B where I want only the numerator to be “broken down” and the denominator to remain the total?
Hi Ingmar A., Please stand by as I search the Mixpanel knowledge base for an AI-powered answer. I normally take about 15 seconds or so. In case AI cannot answer your question, feel free to reach out to Mixpanel support at mixpanel.com/get-support. Based on the available knowledge sources, Mixpanel’s formula functionality in Insights allows you to perform arithmetic operations (such as division) between metrics, including those that are broken down by a property. However, the documentation does not explicitly state that you can create a formula where the numerator is a breakdown segment and the denominator is the unsegmented total (i.e., the overall total, not broken down). The closest related feature is the "Compare to Overall" option, which allows you to see how each segment performs as a percentage of the total. For summable metrics and mutually exclusive groups, these percentages will add up to 100%. However, this is a comparison view, not a custom formula where you directly divide a segment by the overall total in a formula expression. The documentation also notes that for non-summable metrics (like uniques or percentiles), the percentages may not add up to 100% and the comparison is to the unsegmented value, but it does not describe a formula-based approach for this calculation Comparison: Time, Baseline and Overall. In summary, while Mixpanel provides a "Compare to Overall" feature for visualizing segment percentages of the total, the knowledge sources do not explicitly confirm that you can construct a custom formula where only the numerator is broken down and the denominator remains the overall total. If you need this exact functionality, you may need to use the "Compare to Overall" feature or export the data for manual calculation.I'm sorry, but the knowledge sources do not contain enough information to confirm if this is possible via custom formulas in the UI.
