is the first time filter applied across all event types? or across all events of each type?

The First Time Filter in Mixpanel is applied to each event type individually, not across all event types. This means it filters down to only the first instance of a specific event performed by a user. For example, if you apply the First Time Filter to a "Sign Up" event, it will show only the first time each user performed the "Sign Up" event, regardless of other event types they may have triggered. This is confirmed by the documentation, which states: "you might want to filter an event to only the first time that it’s performed by a user" and "This filters the event down to only the first instance of the event performed by a user" Analyzing First Time Users. So, the filter is per event type, not across all event types.
