Understanding Mixpanel's Device Array in User Profiles

In Mixpanel, the user profile has a Devices array that lists device IDs, languages, and device types. Is this array automatically maintained by Mixpanel, and if a user switches to a new device, will the old and new devices both remain visible in the profile?
