How to Enable Identity Merge in Your Project Settings

I want to use Identity Merge in my project. In the Project Settings/Identity Merge it says "This project does not have ID Merge enabled." How do I enable it?

You can only enable ID Merge on projects that don’t have any data yet.- If the project is empty: go to Project Settings → Identity Merge and select either Simplified API (recommended) or Original API, then save. [Identity Merge] - If the project already has data: you cannot enable ID Merge on it. Create a new project, enable the desired ID Merge API before sending any data, then repoint your implementation to the new project. [Identity Merge; Deciding to Migrate]Tip: Set your organization’s default (Org Settings → Identity Merge) so all future projects start with your preferred ID Merge version. [Identity Merge]

kapa.ai Ok, because the project does not have any Identity Merge enabled I was hoping I won't need to do the migration. Do I really have no other option then to create new project to use identity merge? The documentation does not specifically mention what to do when the project has identity merge disabled so I am wondering if there are no other options.

You must create a new project, enable your preferred ID Merge API (Simplified recommended) before sending any data, and migrate or repoint your implementation there. [Identity Merge; Deciding to Migrate]Only if the project is truly empty can you enable ID Merge in Project Settings → Identity Merge and choose Simplified or Original. [Identity Merge]If you do proceed, follow the migration guide to set up the new project and move over live/historical data as needed. [Migrating to Simplified]
