Exploring Middleware Development for Segment to Enhance Mixpanel Support

has anyone here explored developing middleware for Segment in order to support Mixpanel functionality that's otherwise unsupported? it's the recommended way to implement Replay for those of us using Segment, but I wonder if there are other use cases where it would come in handy (off the top, populating the Initial UTM and Initial Referrer fields comes to mind)
