I feel like I'm missing something about the Frequency Per User breakdown... if I set it to Per Interval it works as expected but if I set it to After Step 1 it does nothing... I thought maybe it's not supposed to work for insight reports and only for funnels, but if I change my report into a funnel the option doesn't even appear, I can only select Between Funnel Steps , so it's clearly meant to function in the insight reports, but doesn't seem to work
to give you an idea of what I'm trying to build: a histogram of how many times a user did action B after doing action A, within a given time window (say 7 days)
Hi Vlad- Julianne from Mixpanel Support here!
Diving right in, that looks like a bug on our end with the selection being available. The Insight report should use the Per Interval
selection. After Step 1
is for Retention reports- as documented here. I've gone ahead and flagged the behavior internally. For now, I'd recommend sticking to the Per Interval
selection when using an Insight metric.
It sounds like a Funnel report may work for the question you're interested in. Specifically, a Funnel with a second step that users don't convert through would allow you to see the number of times an event takes place in the conversion time window. I've generated an example of this in our B2B/SaaS demo dataset: https://mixpanel.com/s/1PMh5w. Would that work for your use case?
oh wow, I never thought of using a fake event in that way, that's super smart! thanks!
Happy to help!
