Understanding Event Tracking and Deletion in Analytics

Hey! If I drop an event, will it in no way be tracked later on if I send it again at some point? does it do this on event name? I have some generic events I would like to drop to get other similarily named events in. I do not want to use my deletions for this

if you drop an event, that event will not be ingested moving forward, in the future, you can start ingesting it again if you remove the drop

dropping events is based on the name of the event

trick: let's say you track event1 and you drop it, you can track event2 and change the display name of event2 to show event1 in reports

hahah okay cool, if I undrop? it will also get all the history back?

I am mainly concerned with clogging up the selection fields with a lot of random event names

no, when you undrop, all the events ingested while the event was dropped are not recovered. The idea is that when you drop an event you are telling ingestion server to disregard that data, so we don't store it anywhere

if you drop an event, old data is still available in reports, you need to "hide"

ahh yes, but hiding does not restrict access in the fields for people to use it

drop: acts like a on/off at API/server level to store or not hide: acts as on/off for visibility in reports

people can still find it 'rather easy' i'd say and get confused by it

exactly, they can still type it manually but if it's hidden they will not see it in the dropdowns

hmm, so no easy way to actually hide it for people, so they cannot even access it anymore
