Can the MCP query tool use cohorts in filters?

when interacting through MCP apparently the query tool can't use cohorts inside filters, so it has to read the cohort definitions and recreate them as filters on the query every single time... is this expected behavior? it seems like a suspicious loss of functionality between the UI and the MCP
