There are 17K users who did X event when I check in 'Insights' graph. But then I put that into the funnel as the 1st step and I add a second step(my success event) , then the number of users did this X event (as entering funnel) is only 12. Is this even possible?

This discrepancy between the Insights report and the Funnel report is indeed possible and can be explained by the different ways these reports calculate data in Mixpanel. Let me clarify why this might be happening: 1. Different Counting Methods: The Insights report and the Funnel report use different counting methods by default. As mentioned in the Mixpanel documentation on Data Discrepancies, the Insights report may be counting the total event count ('Total Events'), while the Funnel report by default counts based on unique user count ('Uniques').2. Conversion Window: Funnels have a conversion window, which is the time a user has to complete all steps in the funnel. By default, this is set to 30 days. If your second step (success event) doesn't occur within this window after the first step, it won't be counted in the funnel.3. Funnel Ordering: In a funnel, users must complete the steps in the specified order. If a user performed your success event before the X event, they wouldn't be counted in the funnel.4. Time Frame Differences: Make sure you're looking at the same time frame in both reports. The funnel might be set to a different date range than your Insights report. To investigate this discrepancy further, you can try the following: - Check the counting method in your funnel. You can change this by clicking on "Uniques" in the conversion criteria and selecting "Totals" instead. - Extend the conversion window in your funnel to see if more users complete the steps over a longer period. - Remove all filters from both reports to check if the underlying data is the same, then re-add them to see when the discrepancy occurs. As the Mixpanel FAQ on Funnels vs Insights states: "In the Funnels report, users will need to perform Step 1 event, in order for their Step 2 event to be counted. Insights, on the other hand, will count the Step 2 event, even if the user does not perform the Step 1 event."If you're still seeing significant discrepancies after checking these factors, it might be worth debugging further or reaching out to Mixpanel support for assistance.
