Updated Billing and Data Retention for Enhanced Mixpanel Experience

Good morning Mixpanel Community! ☀️ We’re making two important updates to improve your Mixpanel experience: We’re transitioning to ingestion-time based billing. This change makes pricing more predictable and transparent—you’ll be billed based on when data arrives in Mixpanel, eliminating confusion around backdated events and making it easier to track your usage in real-time. We’re updating our default data retention period to 2 years. This change reflects our commitment to data privacy and security best practices, ensuring your customer data is stored only as long as needed for meaningful analysis. These changes take effect on September 1, 2025. You can see if your account is on ingestion time billing in Organization Settings. If you have specific retention needs beyond 2 years, please contact your account team to discuss custom retention options.

Yes, sorry this was a backdated announcement from the changelog, so I’m a bit behind on posts. Just want to make sure the community was aware 😅

FYI Eric N. your sales page still says 5 years for Free and Growth.. You all should probably change that or you'll have some upset customers. In either case, I've gone to my Organizational Settings and I don't see anything reflecting the datas retention period. Where should that info be located?

Eric N. the 2-year limit is a huge issue for us, as we do analyze user behavior that spans multiple years (e.g. annual plan retention). This seems like a big announcement hidden in a Slack group - was there an email sent about this?
