Tracking Daily Sessions in $ae_session Property Without Custom Events

If the $ae_session property is not tracked by the iOS or Android SDK, is there a way to force it to be tracked or is there an alternative to get the number of daily sessions from the API without implementing a custom event?

Querying Mixpanel API for Daily Session Counts: Options and Challenges

Hey there! I need to query the Mixpanel API for a variety of customer, ideally with as little customization as possible. Until now, I have been able to get the unique sessions count by querying for the $ae_session property count, but it looks like it's been deprecated because I have a customer that has integrated the MP SDK recently, and I am not getting back any data. Is there an endpoint / query that could allow me to get the sessions count for a day or a certain time period?
