Understanding Retention Criteria: On vs On or After in Analytics

Could somebody help explain the difference between retention criteria: On vs On or After? For example, if i am the only app user. I perform B event on Month 1, 3, and 5 (inactive on Month 2 and 4), how will the retention chart look different between On and On or After? (Already go through the document but still find it unclear)
