Calculating Average Results per First Search Event per Session

·
·

My users perform the same event (search view) many times per session. I want to know the average number of results per search, but only for the FIRST event of each session. How can i do that ?

To answer your question about calculating the average number of results for the first search view event of each session in Mixpanel, we can use a combination of features including Sessions, First Time Filter, and Aggregate Property measurements. Here's how you can approach this:1. First, ensure that Sessions are set up correctly in your Mixpanel project. Sessions are computed automatically based on your events. You can configure this in your Project Settings.2. In Insights, create a new query for the "search view" event.3. Apply a First Time Filter to the "search view" event. This will filter the event to only the first instance within each session. You can do this by adding a First Time Filter as described in the Analyzing First Time Users documentation.4. For the measurement, select "Aggregate Property" from the dropdown menu. Then choose the property that represents the number of search results.5. For the aggregation type, select "Average".This setup will give you the average number of results for the first search view event in each session. Here's a step-by-step breakdown:1. Go to Insights 2. Select the "search view" event 3. Add a First Time Filter to the event 4. Change the measurement to "Aggregate Property" 5. Select the property that represents the number of search results 6. Choose "Average" as the aggregation typeBy using the First Time Filter in combination with Sessions, you ensure that you're only considering the first "search view" event of each session. The Aggregate Property measurement with the Average aggregation will then calculate the average number of results for these first searches across all sessions.Remember that the effectiveness of this approach depends on your Sessions being configured correctly and having a property that accurately represents the number of search results for each search view event.Sources: Analyzing First Time Users Sessions: Compute sessions based on existing event data Aggregate Property
