How does mixpanel data view work? If I invite a user, isn't there a way to just grant a user data view access to only a specific data and not all user data?

Yes, Mixpanel's Data Views feature allows you to control which data specific users can access within a project. This is particularly useful for managing data access across different teams or for privacy purposes.## How Data Views WorkData Views allow you to filter what data is visible to specific users within a single Mixpanel project. Project Owners and Admins can create and manage these views to control data access Data Views & Classification. When you create a Data View, you can: - Filter by specific events (include or exclude event names) - Filter by event properties (e.g., only show data from a specific platform) - Filter by user profile properties (e.g., exclude internal staff users)## Inviting Users to Specific Data ViewsWhen you invite users to your Mixpanel project, you can indeed restrict their access to only specific data by adding them to particular Data Views: 1. First, create your Data View with the appropriate filters in Project Settings 2. Then add users to this Data View by clicking "+ Add User" within the Data View settings 3. You can also add entire teams to a Data View if you've set up team structuresAs noted in the documentation: "Adding project Data Views to a team will filter data access to all individuals within the team" Data Views & Classification.## Use CasesThis feature is particularly helpful for: - Separating data by functional teams (Marketing, Engineering, Support) - Isolating customer data from internal user data - Restricting access by region for geo-based teams - Limiting access to specific platforms or app versionsNote that Data Views is an Enterprise plan feature, so you'll need to be on that plan to access this functionality Data Views & Classification.

I understand your concern about adding users to a Mixpanel project that contains data from multiple clients, and wanting to restrict their access before they even receive an invitation. When adding users to Mixpanel, there is indeed a sequence where users need to be added to your organization first, then to projects, before they can access specific Data Views. This creates a brief window where they might technically have access to all project data. Here are a few approaches to address this issue: ## 1. Set up Data Views before inviting usersThe best practice is to set up your Data Views and access controls before inviting new users: 1. Create the Data View with appropriate filters for the specific client data 2. Configure the Data View as the default for new users 3. Then invite the user to your organization and projectAs noted in the documentation: "The 'All Project Data' Data View starts as the default Data View of a project for any new users added to the project. You can decide which Data View you want to set as default" Data Views & Classification.## 2. Use Teams for streamlined access controlFor more systematic management: 1. Create Teams at the organization level 2. Assign appropriate Data Views to these Teams 3. Add new users directly to the relevant TeamThis approach helps "control who has access to what data at scale" Data Views & Classification.## 3. Consider using Classified Data for sensitive informationFor particularly sensitive client data, you can mark specific properties as classified: "Marking properties as classified limits which users can view them... When you mark a property as classified, users or teams with the checked Can View checkbox checked can see the classified property in reports" Data Classification.## 4. Create separate projects for different clientsIf your clients' data needs to be completely isolated, consider creating separate Mixpanel projects for each client rather than using Data Views within a single project.Note that Data Views and Classified Data are Enterprise plan features. If you're concerned about the brief window of potential data access, I recommend reaching out to Mixpanel support for additional guidance specific to your setup.Hope this helps address your concern!
