Is there a way to break down users by share of events within a certain event property? I.e. I would like to calculate user retention for users where at least 10% of event X was with event_property Y on their first day. Is this possible? Put differently, can I create cohorts based on users’ breakdown of this event by a property?

Yes, you can create cohorts based on users' breakdown of an event by a property using Mixpanel's Cohort Builder. The Cohort Builder lets you define cohorts based on a precise set of conditions. These conditions can be of the form “Users who did <event>
more/less than <some threshold>
” or “Users where <profile property>
is equal to/more/less than <value>
”. However, creating a cohort based on users where at least 10% of event X was with event_property Y on their first day might not be directly possible. You can create cohorts based on users who performed a certain event a certain number of times, but specifying a percentage of a certain event property might not be directly supported. You can also use behavioral properties to segment your users by how many times they did an event, or use it to filter out users to only those who did an event a certain number of times. For example, you can use the "Frequency per User" behavioral property to segment your users by how many times they did an event. For more complex calculations, you can use measurements in Mixpanel reports. This includes computing aggregate values of your event and property data, including totals, uniques, and averages. Please refer to the Mixpanel documentation for more details on creating cohorts, behavioral properties, and measurements in reports.

I'm sorry for any confusion, but based on the provided Mixpanel documentation, it doesn't appear that you can directly create a cohort of users where a specific event property makes up a certain percentage of their total count of an event. Mixpanel's Cohort Builder allows you to define cohorts based on conditions like “Users who did <event>
more/less than <some threshold>
” or “Users where <profile property>
is equal to/more/less than <value>
”. However, it doesn't directly support creating cohorts based on the percentage share of a specific event property in the total count of an event. For more complex cohort definitions, you might need to perform some additional data processing outside of Mixpanel or use Mixpanel's APIs. Please refer to the Mixpanel documentation for more details on creating cohorts. If you need more advanced cohort definitions, you might want to reach out to Mixpanel's support or consult their API documentation.
