Monthly Report on Unique First-Time Event Participants

·
·

im building a table insight report. Im reporting on unique users doing for the first time an event. The report is set to filter Month to date. So that means that it will count the people that have done the event for the first time since it has started the month, correct?

You're on the right track, but there's a slight nuance to how Mixpanel handles "first time" events and date ranges. Let me explain: When you're using a "First Time" filter on an event in Mixpanel, it indeed filters the event down to only the first instance of that event performed by each user. However, the "Month to Date" date range doesn't restrict this "first time" calculation to just the current month.According to the Analyzing First Time Users documentation: "Mixpanel computes this on-the-fly by scanning each user's history to determine if this was the first instance of the event performed by the user, based on timestamp."This means that Mixpanel will look at the entire user history, not just the current month, to determine if it's the first time a user performed the event. The "Month to Date" date range, as described in the Date Range documentation, means: "From midnight of the start of the current month up to the current second."So, your report will show: 1. Users who performed the event for the first time ever during the current month. 2. The count will update daily to include data from the start of the month up to the current moment. It will not include users who performed the event for the first time in previous months, even if they also performed it this month. To summarize, your report will count people who have done the event for the first time in their entire history with your product, but only if that first time occurred during the current month-to-date period.
