Borrowed Properties is a feature in Mixpanel that allows you to "borrow" a property from one event and apply it to another event during analysis. Here's how to use Borrowed Properties:1. Access: Borrowed Properties is available for customers on Mixpanel's Growth and Enterprise plans Introducing Borrowed Properties.2. Creation: Only users with Admin or Owner roles can create borrowed properties Custom Properties.3. Limitation: A project can have a maximum of 20 borrowed properties, so it's recommended to create only those useful to the larger team Custom Properties.4. Usage: Once created, a borrowed property functions like any other custom property and can be accessed by all project members (depending on permissions) Custom Properties.5. Lookback window: Borrowing is limited to the most recent event within a 7-day lookback window. If the most recent relevant event is outside this window, the borrowed property will return as "not set" Custom Properties.6. Combining with functions: To use a borrowed property with other functions, you need to: a. Create a custom property with just the borrowed property on its own b. Create a separate custom property using the borrowed property (i.e., the 1st custom property) Custom Properties.Borrowed Properties are particularly useful for: - Merging data from disparate systems (e.g., client-side and server-side) - Combining data between different teams or products - Joining event properties within a product session Custom PropertiesBy using Borrowed Properties, you can unlock more analysis with existing data without requiring additional engineering work Introducing Borrowed Properties.
