Tracking User Steps in Two-Step Funnel Reports for Conversion Analysis

·
·

In a two step funnel report, I want to see how many times a user did step one before doing step two within the conversion window. There used to be an option in the UI to see this, but I cannot find it now.

To analyze how many times a user performed step one before completing step two within the conversion window in a two-step funnel report, you can use the "Frequency per User" breakdown feature in Mixpanel's Funnels report. This feature allows you to see the distribution of event frequencies between funnel steps. Here's how you can access and use this feature:1. In your funnel report, look for the "Breakdown" option. 2. Select "Frequency per User" from the breakdown options. 3. Choose the steps between which you want to measure frequency (in this case, between step 1 and step 2).It's important to note that the frequency breakdown will only count the events that occur between the chosen steps. The event that originally satisfied the funnel definition does not count towards the frequency between steps. For example: - If a user performs "Step 1 -> Step 2", the frequency will be "0 times" because there is no extra "Step 1" event between the original Step 1 and Step 2. - If a user performs "Step 1 -> Step 1 -> Step 2", the frequency will be "1 time" because there is one additional Step 1 event between the original Step 1 and Step 2.This feature allows you to segment your users by how many times they performed an event between any two funnel steps, giving you insights into user behavior patterns within your conversion funnel. For more detailed information on this feature, you can refer to the Mixpanel documentation on Funnels: Measure conversions through a series of events.

kapa.ai Thanks. Can I customise the bucketing of these events, so that I could see how many users did the event between 1-5 times, or 6-10 times, or 11+ for example? And can I view the percentage of users in each of these buckets as a bar chart?

Yes, you can customize the bucketing of these events and view the percentage of users in each bucket as a bar chart. Mixpanel offers a feature called "Custom Buckets" that allows you to group your frequency data into meaningful segments on the fly. Here's how you can achieve this:1. After setting up your funnel and applying the "Frequency per User" breakdown, look for the "Custom Buckets" option. You can usually find this in the overflow menu (often represented by three dots "...") next to the breakdown.2. In the Custom Buckets modal, you can define your desired buckets. For your specific example, you would create three buckets: - 1-5 times - 6-10 times - 11+ times3. Once you've defined your buckets, apply the changes.4. To view the results as a bar chart, simply select the bar chart visualization option from the chart type selector. This customization allows you to segment your users based on their event frequency in a way that's most meaningful for your analysis. The bar chart will show the percentage of users falling into each of your defined frequency buckets. For more details on using Custom Buckets, you can refer to the Mixpanel documentation on Custom Buckets. It's worth noting that Custom Buckets is a powerful feature that works across various Mixpanel reports, including Insights, Funnels, and Retention, making it a versatile tool for your analytics needs.Custom Buckets: Bringing more easy-to-use analysis power to Mixpanel provides additional context on how this feature can enhance your analysis capabilities while maintaining ease of use.
