Hey all, I'm new - have a question about ID Merge / identifying users pre- and post-login and when we need to actively do something for this Client Side tracking - Per the docs above it sounds like nothing needs to be done outside of the standard
.identify(...)
and
.reset()
since the
device_id
is handled by the SDK and when you then later called
.identify(...)
post a login event, Mixpanel will handle the stitching of pre- and post-login data Server Side tracking - These docs seem to suggest that instead of the above, I should generate my own anonymous session-persistent UUID when someone lands on the website and set this as the pre-login event
$device_id
, and grab this cookie server side to be sent with any server side tracking. And then basically whenever Mixpanel gets a track event that has both
$device_id
and
$user_id
it will form the association So are both of these things required? Is only the
.identify(...)
+
.reset()
approach required? Why would I need to create my own anonymous UUID as a replacement for
$device_id
if device ID is effectively that already? Any guidance much appreciated!
