We currently use Mixpanel to measure retention the following way:

Users who used the app for the first time, performed EVENT_X, and then came back and did ANYTHING.

This is great, except that there is 1 or 2 events that we would love to exclude from "Anything". I am suggesting a way to do:

Users who used the app for the first time, performed EVENT_X, and then came back and did ANYTHING except EVENT_Y and EVENT_Z.

This is beneficial because we can measure a key action compared to any other key events, but exclude events that do not indicate retention (such as background events, order cancellations, non-user initiated events, etc).

The UI could look like this:

This is a pretty interesting idea! I'm going to present this to our Product team. Thanks for the suggestion. In the meantime, one work-around would be to create one custom-event containing all "key action" events and you could call it "Key Action" and then use this instead of "Anything" - Check out this help article - hope this his helpful!
