I have a good amount of events from a user undefined. How can I explicitly filter for this value?

you can do a filter for the property "name" with it being "is not set"

I tried that ofc, it did not work though...

Hi @lars,

Michael from Mixpanel here- welcome to the community!

I would recommend something like what @toddg has.

For more background, undefined properties usually happen when the property you are segmenting by isn’t on the events you’re looking at. For more possible reasons that we see, look here.

In order to see only events that have this Name property undefined, I would click on the arrow I've marked in green below and then switch the filter operator from contains to is not set.

If you have tried this unsuccessfully, what are you seeing?

like I mentioned before, this was also my first thought. However, it did not work.

since this is unsuccessful, what are you seeing?

Typing "undefined" into the filter bar worked for me.

@michael is there any updates to this? both:

  • using “is not set”
  • typing “undefined” into the filter bar don’t work for my use case

(for background, i have a total that is broken out by a name field, and with no filters it shows an “undefined” category. both approaches described above cause mixpanel to spit out “We couldn't find any data for your query.”)
