Importing users into mixpanel

I am about to import new users into mixpanel. We already have these users on our database after they signed up on our mobile app, but we had not implemented mixpanel tracking codes at the time.

Many of these users have since been inactive and since they doesnt exist on mixpanel, I need a way to pull their data into mixpanel so I can group them into cohorts for campaigns.

My question is: Won't mixpanel create a duplicate account if the user later happens to use the app?

Also, what methods can I use to import the details of the users?

To prevent duplicate user profiles you’ll want to make sure to set the $distinct_id to be the user identifier.  It won’t create a new user if it happened to already exist.  The easiest way to do a one time import is uploading from csv.
