We are tracking webpage hits, and recently changed our website to NOT have slashes at the end of addresses.

Now, our event data is messed up because there are many "copies" of the same event.. i.e. website.com/page/ and website.com/page track as separate events.

Is it possible to associate or merge two events together so that page and page/ are the same thing?

@travis it sounds like a custom event might be useful for you. Custom events helps us with analyzing two events in one step - however there can be many usage for it. I found this helpful article you can look at read more https://help.mixpanel.com/hc/en-us/articles/115004562246.

If you want to completely merge the events together, then Lexicon might be better for you. There is a section in their lexicon article that talks in more detail about merging events here https://help.mixpanel.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001307806#merging-events-and-properties

Hope this helps you out!

Hey @stephanie.whitlock,

Thanks for your answer. I looked at those, and they're great for changing the event itself, but do not appear to be a solution for my predicament. More specifically, I want to combine similar property results of the same event.

For example, the event is Site - Page Visited which has a property called permalink. I would like to combine site.com/page and site.com/page/ but not change the behaviour of the actual event itself.

@travis it sounds like you would like to merge the values site.com/page and site.com/page/ of the event property permalink? If so, I believe the only method to conjoin event values is to create a custom event.

Custom events can be built by clicking on the "+Create Custom Event" item at the bottom of the events dropdown in any of the Engagement reports. (step 1) The menu will prompt you to select the event and properties you'd like to combine. I have attached a screenshot on my dummy report on how to just merge the event values into one. (step 2) You can name your new event - we can keep it the same as Site - Page Visited if it is not too confusing. Once created, you'll see the custom event in your event menus or on Lexicon to manage.

Not sure if I jumped ahead here, hopefully I provided some help!

Hi, Stephanie. My issue is the latter, I need to completely merge some events together. I could easily do this by following the instructions at Lexicon Overview - but only in my development testing project. When I tried to do the same at the production project, the “Merge” button never appeared when I selected two or more events. Could you please help me figure out why this is happening and how to fix it? Thanks!

Just updating that support clarified to me that merging events is only allowed to project owners, admins can’t do it. In my case, I was owner of the dev project but not of the production one. What solved was simply asking the owner to extend the role to me.
