Is there a way to look at new users and analyze real First Time Retention? According to this article the First Time Retention Report looks at the first instance of the bucketing event in the defined time range, but it doesn’t take into account whether it’s the first time of all-time a user has done a certain action.

By real first time retention, do you mean first time retention for a new feature?

Hey Steve - yes and no. We would like to see if it's the first time ever that a user has done a certain event since signing up. We have different products in our app and they're not always necessarily new.

This is a case where it may be worth extracting some of the data for mixpanel for analysis since the dashboard itself won't let you create this type of report. If you took the activity from each user and looked at the first instance of this event occurring you would be able to learn a lot from the remaining data, such has how much time between signup and this event transpired, the mean of users that do it within certain time windows, etc.
