Dashboard: "Compared to previous period" - What period?

On Dashboard view, a graph show “X% compared to previous period”. What period is meant when the date is set on between June 1st - June 8th? When checking, it’s not May 1st - May 8th. So what is it then?

Is it possible to change the “compared to previous period” settings?

Hey Sebastiaan,

Brandon, the PM for Dashboards, here.  For the metric visualization, the previous period is the time range of the same duration that immediately precedes the report time range.  In your example, June 1st - June 8th is an 8 day span.  Therefore, the previous period is the 8 day span that ends immediately before June 1st: May 24th - May 31st.  Right now, the metric visualization’s previous period is not customizable.

However, we’ve just released new functionality to dashboards that allows for period-over-period comparisons of Insights bar and line charts.  To do this, you’ll need to add a “Compare to Past” to your Insights report via the button here:, then save that report and add it to your dashboard.  Having done so, the dashboard will display the same period-over-period comparison that you selected in the report.

Let me know if this helps, or if you have any further questions or suggestions!

@bskerda Is it possible to compare to compare the data for example week over week but quarterly? I tried using the “rolling date” option but still its limited in its ability if the whole parent period is yet populated.
